Music to do the talking at Stone Love anniversary

- YASMINE PERU STAR Writer

It will be much more music and way less talk at Stone Love’s 47th anniversary celebrations, to be held on Saturday at Sabina Park in Kingston.

The organisers say that this year’s event has a straight ‘party vibes’ theme, so for those females who can’t dance in their heels, the reminder is to “pack your slippers in your bag”.

Stone Love CEO Winston ‘Wee Pow’ Powell told THE WEEKEND STAR that even though he has secured all the permits required for the party to enjoy the extended time being granted under the temporarily amended Noise Abatement Act, things will kick off early.

“It is billed as a dance party with Stone Love and Friends,” Powell explained. “We aim to get started from as early as 7 p.m., and it will be a straight, hot, intense party juggling from you enter the venue. Guinness is back on board as our main sponsor, so yuh know that the bucket deals will flow all night, and we also have Boom on board, and we feel that it’s a good look for our anniversary.”

As usual, there will be guest artistes passing through to show their respect, but Powell refused to call names. He simply said,

“The line-up will be great.”

He pointed out that, as is the norm, other sounds and selectors will join forces with the ‘immortal’ Stone Love, and the intention is to transform Sabina Park into party central. SK International, the 2015 winners of the Guinness Sounds of Greatness Sound Clash, and the indemand Rebel T are among the players set to ignite the celebration.

This year, Powell and his crew will forego the annual awards section of the event, partly because fans have been complaining that it takes up too much time.

Asked about the lessons he has learnt during the past 47 years, Powell answered without even pausing to think about it.

“Treat people good. They are the ones who make you, and they can also break you,” he said.
