Aspiring artiste pushes black consciousness with upcoming album
As the world celebrates Black History Month, aspiring artiste Azeela is gearing up to spread the message of black consciousness with the release of his album, ‘Black Superstar’.
The entertainer told THE STAR that having been brought up by his Pan-Africanist father, he wants to use music to pass on some of the lessons he learnt about appreciating the colour of one’s skin.
“Black
Superstar is a project that is deeply rooted in the way I was raised by my father. He was very black conscious and taught me to love my race and who I was. When
I observe people of
African origin bleaching themselves,
I think it’s nonsensical and wasteful,” he said. “My father taught me to love my skin and so with this album I hope to spread that same energy to others. February is Black History Month, and so it is the right time for such a message.”
But he said he also wanted to transcend the month and spark a psychological revolution in people’s minds.
A set release date for the project was not given, but the artiste says aside from preaching messages of black consciousness, the compilation will lift people into a higher spiritual realm. Lamenting that the music of today has become too negative, the artiste says nothing good has been coming from the barrage of “gun songs”. He wants to play his part in cleaning up the entertainment scene.
“If it was up to me, the music industry would be clean and fit for the family. We have to send out positive vibrations and watch it turn things around. I have to play my part in changing and renewing the mind of the people, and that’s what this album will
do,” he said.
