SVREL preparing for restart of racing
No date has yet been set for the restart of racing at Caymanas Park but promoters Supreme Ventures Racing and Entertainment Limited (SVREL) are already preparing to be fast out of the gates when that date is set.
SIGN OFF ON THE PROTOCOLS
A memorandum of understanding was signed by stakeholders last week and the wait is now on for the Ministry of Health and Wellness to sign off on the protocols which will govern all who are involved in the sport when racing resumes after a forced break because of the COVID-19 pandemic. President of the United Racehorse Trainers Association Ryan Darby has proposed a June 13 restart, but, with protocols not yet decided, that date could be put back until later in the month
As part of its preparations, SVREL has posted a provisional 10-day meet projection on its racing website.
Race day one is expected to feature an eight-race programme; race day – two 10 races; race day – three 10 races; and race day four – nine races. The projection is for 10 races on all the remaining six race days.
With most of the horses likely to be off the track competitively for three months or more when action resumes at the Park, the promoters have only included sprint races for race day one. The longest events will be be run over 1,100 metres for three-year-old colts and geldings and a four-year-old and up race for nonwinners of two. On the second day, horses will go as far as 1,300 metres and 1,400m on the third. Horses will not be asked to go beyond 1,400m until a scheduled fifth race day.
Racing has been absent from Caymanas Park since March 21.
