Two held for firearm offences

The police took four illegal firearms off the streets between Monday and Tuesday, and arrested two persons in the process. On Monday, one Glock 9mm pistol fitted with a magazine containing twelve 9mm rounds of ammunition was seized by the St James police during an operation in Hurlock, Granville, St James.

Reports from the Montego Bay police are that about 6:35 a.m., lawmen were in the area when the firearm and ammunition were found wrapped in a piece of cloth in an open lot. No one was taken into custody in relation to this seizure. Investigat­ions continue.

The following day, in the same parish, a woman was arrested in connection with the seizure of two 9mm firearms and two 9mm rounds of ammunition during an operation in Bobman Hill, Lilliput.

HOUSE WAS SEARCHED

Reports from the Barrett Town police are that about 6 a.m., lawmen were in the area when a premises occupied by the woman was searched.

One 9mm Trabzon Carandai pistol, a magazine containing two 9mm rounds of ammunition and one Browning 9mm pistol were found wrapped in a sock under the staircase of the dwelling.

The woman was taken into custody in relation to this seizure. Her identity is being withheld pending further investigat­ions.

In St Andrew, one man was taken into custody following the seizure of a firearm in Guava Ridge, Mavis Bank, on Tuesday.

Reports from the Gordon Town police are that about 12:50 p.m., lawmen were in the area when they saw a man sitting in a shop.

The police observed the man trying to remove a knapsack from his back. He was accosted, searched, and one disassembl­ed 9mm pistol was found in the bag.

He was subsequent­ly arrested; however, his identity is being withheld pending further investigat­ions.
