A45-year-old man who has spent almost literally half of his life behind bars, says he would be doing everything in his power to not have to appear before a judge again.

Christopher ‘Scary’ McKenzie, who was released from prison last Friday after serving a one-year sentence for forgery, said he regrets not bonding with his two children, now adults, who he cannot locate.

“To be honest, mi can’t continue on this road every day. I keep doing these things but then mi realise say it nuh beneficial to me and me can’t continue a hurt people. Everytime mi commit a crime like dis and get a two or three year, it means say those years inna mi life waste behind bars and mi could outside a do something constructive like spending time with my children. Seventy five per cent of the charges are the same although is not everytime mi did guilty of them,” he said.

WOUNDING CHARGE

He stated that the first time he went to prison, it was on a wounding charge. But the majority of his offences were for accepting money under false pretence.

“Is about 22 years all together mi do. What really happen is that mi will go prison for one ting but then mi meet other inmates who a do some form a scamming and a deh so mi just go back inna wrong because dem teach mi how to do it to make money,” he said.

“In prison, people do all type a things to survive just like when dem deh a road. From scamming to selling illegal Cash Pot, people a do it and dem teach mi,” he added.

“I am trying my best to live a crime free life but I just need some help. Mi a beg people not to judge me or anything because of mi past actions but mi really need likkle help. Mi nuh have a good sleep from mi come a road Friday because where I was, the person rent out the place because I wasn’t there. Mi just wa likkle help to get back on mi feet,” he said.
