Three members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, who are based in the Area One Police Division in St James, were reportedly arrested on drug-related charges

The St Catherine South police have launched an investigation into an alleged case of sexual assault and robbery with aggravation after an incident took place in Portmore last Tuesday.

Reports are that a woman took a white Nissan motor car along Molynes Road with two men aboard, allegedly posing as a taxi operator and a passenger, intending to travel to Portmore via Ferry route.

Vybz Kartel and his co-convicts are one step closer to getting their case heard in the Privy Council in the United Kingdom.

Bert Samuels, the lawyer for Shawn Storm, one of Kartel’s coconvicts, confirmed to THE STAR last night that an official application has been made in the case.

“An application has been filed on behalf of all four appellants to get leave to go to the Privy Council with the matter. It will be heard via video link during the week of June 29,” Samuels said. in the US on Tuesday afternoon following a drug bust.

Reports are that the three constables, two men and one woman, are facing drug-related charges in the US city of Atlanta.

It is alleged that the driver changed course and the men drove to a house in Portmore where they both subjected her to perform sexual activities at gunpoint. She was also stripped of an iPhone valued at $80,000 and $600 cash.

The woman was allegedly abducted between the hours of 7 p.m. and 3:30 a.m.

According to a representative at the Corporate Communications Unit, the matter was reported and is currently being investigated.

Kartel, Shawn Storm, Kahira Jones and Andre St John are serving mandatory life sentences for the murder of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams.

They appealed their sentences and convictions in July 2018, however, their appeals were dismissed by the court in Jamaica two months ago.

SEEK PERMISSION

The legal teams for all four men took the decision to take the matter to the Privy Council. Samuels had explained at the time that they would have to seek permission from the court in Jamaica in order that two of the constables were supposed to be on active duty at the time of their arrest. They allegedly left the island without the knowledge of their superior officers.

Further reports reaching THE STAR are that on Tuesday afternoon, the four cops arrived in Atlanta on a flight from Jamaica. Upon reaching the security checkpoint, they aroused the suspicions of the airport authorities and were detained.

Further reports are that they were searched, and three of them were found in possession of contraband, which is alleged to be a quantity of cocaine. They were subsequently arrested.

“CISOCA (Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse) is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding that incident, so we can’t give out any details in regards to the incident at this time,” he said.

Meanwhile, head of CISOCA, Superintendent Sheryl Burke, said once investigations are ongoing, information has to be withheld.

“I can’t speak about this particular case or give details on active investigations,” she said to take the case overseas, but, if for some reason permission was not granted, they could approach the Privy Council directly.

“The Privy Council has now provided for us to have live streaming by the attorneys in Jamaica and we can do it by video link to the Privy Council. It has substantially reduced the cost of appearing in the Privy Council. So we may be opting to have live-streaming of this appeal to the Privy Council where we will be at a location in Jamaica and we are addressing the Privy Council,” Samuels said.

Yanike Crosdale, the mother of Jevaughn Duhaney, who was fatally shot, reportedly by a soldier last month, wept openly outside the House of Tranquillity Funeral home yesterday.

She was frustrated as the scheduled autopsy was stalled, allegedly because the forensic pathologist, Dr Althea Neblett, refused to have Dr Jephthah Ford oversee the procedure on the family’s behalf.

“Why can’t Dr Ford be there? The doctor came out and say she not working with Dr Ford and if he was the person who is going to oversee it, then the autopsy nah go do,” she said.

Duhaney, 24, a resident of Bray Street along Elletson Road in Kingston, was reportedly shot by a member of the Jamaica Defence Force on May 9 as he sat on his verandah.

Ford said that the family had followed procedure and wrote to the relevant authorities to inform them that he would be present.
