Jamaican fast bowler Marquino Mindley did his cause for Windies Test selection no harm as the pacer bagged three wickets for Brathwaite’s XI on day two of their threeday Inter-squad practice match at Old Trafford yesterday.

Mindley, who is part of the reserve squad on tour, grabbed three for 27 from 7.1 overs as Holder’s XI, replying to Brathwaite’s XI 275, were dismissed for 193 in 51.1 overs.

Left-arm seamer Raymon Reifer was the star on the day, bagging five for 60 from 13 overs. The leftarm swing bowler’s feat was even more impressive as he snared the five wickets in 11 balls.

The Barbadian was more than happy with his start in the UK.

MADE UP MY MIND

“I am feeling really good at the moment,” Reifer said. “I just made up my mind to get the ball in the right areas and it worked out pretty well for me.

“I have another innings with both bat and ball, and I am just trying to go out there and finish the game as strongly as possible,” said Reifer.

Jamaican pacer Oshane Thomas picked up just one wicket, that of Alzarri Joseph for 10.

Sunil Ambris was the innings top scorer, with 53, while there were useful contributions from Kyle Mayers who made 45, and opener Shane Mosely, who got 40.

Batting a second time, Brathwaite’s XI reached 99 for 3 at stumps for a lead of 181 runs.

Jamaican opener John Campbell shrugged off his first innings failure by smashing 10 fours and a six in his 59 ball knock of 49 before he was dismissed leg before wicket to Joseph.

Captain Brathwaite made 34, while Shamarh Brooks and Roston Chase are both not out on four.

Alzarri Joseph has so far bagged 2 for 17.
