JCA planning safeguards for Super50
With the All-Island Super50 Competition set to begin in November, Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) president Wilford ‘Billy’ Heaven says protocols for the staging of the tournament are now being finalised.
Heaven told STAR Sports that everyone is eager to return to the field play, but they will have to adhere to all the guidelines and protocols established by the JCA and the Ministry of Health and Wellness.
“We expect to have some limitations and restrictions on the game,” he said. “We are about 99 per cent in finalising our plans.”
PROTOCOLS
“We know some of the things already that we will have to do because we are being guided by the tour in England right now between the West Indies and Englishmen. We are looking at those protocols to see what aspects are relevant to us.”
The Windies are to face hosts England in a Three-Test series starting on July 8.
“Our situation is a little different because they are playing in a biosecure environment and we won’t have a totally biosecure environment anywhere in Jamaica, so we will have to tweak those, but they will guide us,” Heaven said.
The novel coronavirus has caused the cancellation, postponement, and suspension of a number of local and international sporting competitions. Chief among them are the Red Stripe Premier League, the Racers Grand Prix, and the Tokyo Olympic Games.
