Able aims for 50 wins

- ROBERT BAILEY STAR Writer

Female apprentice jockey Abigail Able has set her sights on winning 50 races this season at Caymanas Park.

Able, who has been riding for almost two years now, has recorded only two wins in her career so far.

In fact, the soft-spoken Able has registered one win this season when she piloted home ROJORN DI PILOT to victory for former champion trainer Wayne daCosta.

“My aim is to win 50 races for this season and so, hopefully, everything goes well for me and I managed to get some good rides,’ said Able.

FEELING CONFIDENT

“I am just feeling confident in myself even though I have only won two races.

“I have been working very hard in the saddle just like the male jockeys and I have also been riding for a lot more trainers.”

She added that despite the fact that she has only rode two winners, she has been receiving a lot of good advice and encouragement from the trainers and her fellow jockeys throughout her career.

“I am just happy that racing is back and so I am just looking to continue my career and winning some races this year,” Able said.

The trainers have been telling me that I am looking a lot better in the saddle because I have been keeping my horses straight and so I am feeling good about that,’ she said.

“I am also getting a lot more experience because I have been riding for almost two years now and so I can now tell whenever something is wrong with a horse,” Able noted.

She has secured two rides on tomorrow’s 12-race card and, according to Able, they both stand a good chance of winning.

“Anything is possible with my horses on Saturday because that are all horses and you can never tell what is going to happen on the day,” she said.
