Sick woman longs for surgery, new home

- AKERA DAVIS STAR Writer

Sharon Morrison’s life changed drastically in 2015, after being told that her left knee was worn out due to diabetes. She has not been able to walk properly since. However, the surgery that would have changed her ordeal was pushed back due to the halt brought on by the coronavirus pandemic.

“I lose a knee cap and I was supposed to do surgery early this year but them put if off for the third of December because of the COVID-19,” Morrison, 60, told THE WEEKEND STAR. “I have to always have the knee straight up, my left knee cannot bend so I’m really struggling,”

She added: “The doctor said after I do the surgery, I will be able to walk again so I don’t have to use the walking cane anymore. I did just want to do the surgery because my life is hard.”

Morrison, who is a domestic helper, says she has not been able to work since she started having challenges with her knee.

“I just have to sell like snacks in Cross Roads now but I have to beg people for help,” she said. But the Kingston 14 resident’s situation is even more complex, as she is without a place to call home.

HOUSING NOT CONVENIENT

“I want somewhere to live because the church home that I’m living in is not so much convenient. It is a lady’s place and I have to be paying contribution down there and I don’t have any money and I can’t live there forever,” she said. “I lease a piece of land already in St Andrew but I’m just waiting on the Food For The Poor to bring the house.”

She expressed that it is a constant struggle living in her currently dwelling because the terrain is challenging.

“Even the veranda it hard to go on. I keep on falling down and the other day I drop on the veranda on my left hand because I can’t walk so well,” she said. “I just want the surgery to be done because is a while now me have a hard time walking. If Food For The Poor can give me the house, I would be glad too,” she added.
