We will bounce back - Edwards

Jamaica Tallawahs fast bowler Fidel Edwards says the team will find its footing once more and bounce back from the disappointing performance against the Guyana Amazon Warriors on Saturday.

The Jamaican franchise failed to chase down a paltry total of 118 against the Warriors and instead stuttered to 104 for seven in their 20 overs despite a valiant 52 from 37 balls from Andre Russell, who ran out of steam towards the end to fall short by 14 runs.

It was a disappointing result for the Tallawahs who now find themselves in the fourth position with two points from three games with a negative run rate of 0.301.

One bright spark for the Tallawahs was the bowling unit which managed to peg back the fast-starting Warriors batting, thanks to three wickets for spinner Mujeeb Ur Rhaman and medium-pacer Carlos Brathwaite and two wickets for Nepalese spinner Sandeep Lamichhane.

Veteran speedster Edwards who opened the bowling and went wicketless in three overs, said there is no need to panic, as there is still a lot of cricket to be played.

“We have to forget the negative stuff right away and focus on what’s in front of us, we have to put together our plans piece by piece and once we do that, I guarantee we will start winning games and all Tallawahs fans will be proud of us,” the Barbadian said.

The 38-year-old fast bowler says there are a lot of positives to take out of their last contest, and the team would be capitalising on that when they face the Amazon Warriors once again in their return fixture on Tuesday.

“It is good to see Russell finding his touch once again and our bowling unit has been doing OK. I believe we need to tighten up during the power play overs and we should be in good stead. The tournament is still young and I have all confidence that we will peak at the right time, all we need to do is to keep our heads up and think positive,” added Edwards.
