Gandhi tweaks his musical style

Recovering from what he describes as the devastating loss of a close family member, dancehall/ reggae artiste Ghandi says he is now ready to get back into the thick of things and will be releasing new music in the coming months. Sporting a new look and a repurposed approach to his music, the entertainer, formerly known as ‘Ras Ghandi’, has also cut his locs.

In an interview with THE STAR, the artiste said having had a lot of time to reflect on his career recently, he felt the time had come for him to rebrand and channel a new energy into the music. “It’s either you rise above situations or you allow your situations to rise above you. People have definitely been paying attention to my music over the years and so I know they have been wondering, what is up with Ghandi? I just want them to know that it’s all about a new look and a new energy,” he said.

NEW CONNECTION

Speaking of new energy, Ghandi says he is focused on connecting with new audiences and has shifted focus slightly as it relates to the type of material he will be releasing. The entertainer, who is currently promoting the singles Touch Shop and Watch the P*ms, says he is focused on catering to women and will be releasing content that promotes intimacy in the bedroom. He says although the tracks ooze sex appeal and leave little to the imagination, the content is a lot more tame than some of the songs currently circulating in the dancehall space. “It’s not about what you say, it’s how you say it. I believe, lyrically, I have told a story that grown-ups can relate to and still don’t feel turned off by the subject. They are both edgy records and not the content Ghandi usually delivers. However, that is what makes the music special, because variety is the spice of life,” he said. “We have been doing some promotions and the feedback has been positive so far. The public has been enjoying the songs and so it is only upwards from here.”

Ghandi has already released a music video for Touch Shop, and said there are plans to produce the visuals for Watch The P*ms.
