Laden rebuilding momentum after COVID hindrance

- SHEREITA GRIZZLE Staff Reporter

Earlier this year, dancehall artiste Laden revealed that he may have found the track that could once again catapult him to the pinnacle of the music industry.

According to him, the track, You Can Make It, had been getting good feedback from the public.

But before the track could bring any real success, COVID-19 struck and halted his promotion push. In an interview with Weh Dem Up To, Laden said that he couldn’t get to go out and promote the song at weekly street events or perform it anywhere.

“But it’s still a solid song and we’re going to start pushing it once more,” he said. “I also have two tracks that I’m pushing right now that are also doing really well. One is called Never Alone and the other is Watch Out Mi Life. COVID slow things down but it never stop things. I have been using the time in quarantine to write and record.”

The Time to Shine hitmaker also said he has been using the last few months to assess the music industry, and based on his observation, today’s entertainment scene is more focused on pushing the careers of ‘gimmicks artistes’ than those with real talent.

“I think our industry watered down and gone to the dogs where quality is concerned, and I say that without apology. And I think people in the industry turn a blind eye to that fact and push everything other than talent,” he said. “From my observations, the songs that get more attention are poor-quality songs. The artistes on the top right now are some poor delivery artistes, some poor writers who can’t put together a good song fi save dem life. If dem don’t mention anything ‘bout underneath a girl or some ‘mattic’ or some choppa dis or dat, they ain’t saying anything.” Laden said that despite having some biased people in the music industry, he is grateful for the career he has.

“I have a good catalogue of music that I really give thanks for. Anywhere I go in the world I can sing certain songs and people recognise it immediately, and that’s something every artiste hopes to achieve,” he said.
