Droptop reaps success from Kartel song

- Staff Reporter

Droptop Records’ Rowane ‘Droptop’ Melhado is today basking in the success of several hot tracks currently on rotation on the local dancehall scene. Over the past few weeks, the England-based producer has worked with Masicka on his latest single Difficult, then followed up with a Rygin King track titled No Emotion.

Now, he is has landed a track with incarcerated deejay Vybz Kartel. The single, Yami Bolo, which premièred last Friday, has not only been creating a buzz on social media but has racked up close to a million views on YouTube.

Speaking on the track, Droptop told THE WEEKEND STAR that he and ‘Worl’ Boss’ go way back and expressed that even though the deejay is locked up, they have managed to keep their friendship intact. “Kartel and I are good friends, more like a family. Vybz Kartel has been known to me for years from he just started doing music as Addi Banton and not yet known internationally, just a young youth working hard to make his name in the music industry,” he said. “I have always respected Kartel’s artistry. I rate his work ethics. I have been a supporter of his music from then ‘til now and so this (Yami Bolo) was a track that was destined to be. I am just happy we got the chance to make it happen and I am looking forward to all the great things it will do. I anticipate that this single is going to be a massive hit. As you know, Kartel is a very talented artiste who never fails to deliver and he never disappoints his fans.”
