Moyann making the best of tough 2020

Since making her debut in 2018, dancehall artiste Moyann has been making steady moves on the local entertainment circuit.

In two years, the Netflixxx and Chill singer has outgrown the label of aspiring artiste.

She has been racking up numbers on YouTube with her songs having collectively amassed more than eight million views.

She vowed to take things to new heights last year, and has been keeping that promise, as already, 2020 has seen her collaborating with Jahvillani and Kranium.

With COVID-19 having halted many plans for a number of artistes, Moyann told THE WEEKEND STAR that she refuses to slow down.

“This year has been outstanding for me because I’ve been pushing through in every situation. Going through the pandemic and the whole lockdown situation when my career is on an upward trend took a toll on me, but I was determined to win,” she said. “I’m still not dropping the standards regardless of the fact that 2020 has been a very difficult year.”

FRESH STYLE

Describing her style as fresh, new and magnetic, Moyann says she believes her recent success is a direct result of the type of material she produces. She says her work connects with people because of the specific topics that she sings about.

“I sing about real situations and affairs which are always trending and current with my audience, and so it connects with them in a very real way,” she said. “I anticipate that my music will reach a wider audience that’s not familiar with me so I can gain more potential supporters. That’s what is setting up to happen now based on the playlists that I’ve been added to.”

Among those playlists is BBC 1Xtra and various ones on Spotify.

“I am not surprised because I know that everything takes time, but I’d say it makes me even more humbled and confident in the reach that my music will ultimately have. A long-term goal for me is working towards being in the international market as an internationally acclaimed dancehall artiste,” she said. Moyann is also still riding high off her performance at last week’s virtual staging of Notting Hill Carnival.

“I’m truly grateful for the opportunity and acknowledgement. Notting Hill Carnival is a staple on the English annual event calendar, everyone wants the opportunity to perform there. Though I would have loved to be there and feel the crowd’s energy live, I’m really grateful that I could have done it virtually. It was a great experience,” she said.
