Lowe joins Lambert, Flemmings at Phoenix Rising FC
National defender Damion Lowe will make his return to the United Soccer League (USL) championship for the remainder of 2020.
The 27-year-old centre back was officially introduced on Wednesday as a member of Phoenix Rising FC, pending league and federation approval. He will join national teammates Kevon Lambert and striker Junior Flemmings, who is now the current league leading goalscorer.
PERMANENT DEAL
Lowe reportedly will be venturing to Qatar on a permanent deal with Qatari Club Al Markhiya when the current USL season is completed.
Phoenix Rising head coach Rick Schantz says that Lowe’s addition gives his back line the best defence option among the team, should he performs to his standards.
“He has played at a high level. He has been successful in [the] USL. If he plays t0 the level he is capable of ... he’s bigger, stronger and faster than almost anyone we have,” Schantz told the club’s website. “He gives us three players for two positions there in the middle, which is important heading into [the] play-offs.”
Lowe has not played competitive football in months since his release from his previous club IK Start of Norway. He was a member of the Tampa Bay Rowdies in 2017 and stayed in the USL Championship for seven months before moving to IK Start in August 2017.
Phoenix Rising are currently leading Group B with 26 points and are in the hunt for places in this year’s play-offs. Lowe could make his club debut as early as this Saturday when they host San Diego Loyal.
