“Mi look inna dem eyes and mi see weh mi see. Mi know dat a hate, mi know dat a envy. Dun know all the ones dem weh no inna mi, but dem still need mi strength so dem a fren me.”

The lyrics are the opening lines of the song Funny How, the brainchild of up-and-coming entertainer Onsound Mynd. The single represents actual events he has faced.

“Funny How came about at a time when I was in a relationship and things weren’t going so well there. At the time, I was also going through some problems with some family members and some friends, business associates and people I thought were in my circle and were watching out for me but really weren’t, and so mi did really just a vent inna di song,” he told THE

STAR.

Onsound Mynd said the song was for his own personal healing, and while he thought it was good, the positive feedback is still overwhelming.

“Everybody have a story about fake friends, family weh nuh have yuh best interest at heart because a bad mind and envy. We all go through those moments as human beings, and that’s why the song is so loved,” he said. Onsound Mynd believes that it is important as an entertainer to master the art of storytelling.

“Mi like sing a song weh paint a picture. Mi want my music come to life in a certain way dat yuh feel exactly how mi feel when mi a write the song, because that’s what’s going to set my work apart from everybody else’s,” he said. “If yuh listen songs from man like Damian ‘Jr Gong’ Marley, him really tell yuh a story inna him work. The way him express himself and the way him arrange him words, he brings things to life in a way not many artistes have been able to. That’s what I want to do.”

Onsound Mynd says he plans on using the buzz created from

Funny How to make his mark in the music industry, and avoid the ‘one-hit wonder’ label.

He’s planning to release two more singles, Lesson Learnt and

I Know in 2021, but isn’t done with Funny How.

“Mi personally nuh feel like the song reach its full potential as yet, and so mi want it soak in some more. Mi nah try use one song and kill another. Substance over quantity me say,” he said.
