Told she needed to be cured of sex demon

Mary* was sitting by her computer one night in January when evil entered her life through her Facebook page as she received a frightening message from a man.

“Death is upon yuh, that traditional curse. Yuh have a very bright future, don’t allow anyone to take it away. You are going to have to come and see mi personally, madam, or else yuh going to dead,” the man told her. He urged her to “set herself free” and not to allow “the enemy to beat her down”.

Mary, a college student, said that the man told her she had been possessed by a sex demon and she would die at the end of February. Mary was initially unconvinced, but his messages of doom became more constant as the days went by. Very soon she began to cower in fear. She said that the man told her about happenings in her life that appeared true, and so she began believing him. The evil man said he was not only a ‘reader man’, but could rid her of the evil.

PREPARE THE BATH

“Him start say mi need a spiritual bath and him send mi him number and said it was urgent, and what he was saying in his voicenotes was really scary. Mi start say mi so young and mi nuh ready fi dead yet. And mi, like a fool, guh give the man mi number and him tell mi to buy something to prepare the bath,” she said.

A frightened Mary said that she used about $8,000 from her savings to purchase items for the bath, including green limes, a dried coconut, olive oil and a bottle of rum.

She was required to take along another $7,500 to purchase candles, and $1,300 as an altar offering. However, it wasn’t until she got to the Corporate Area where the man resided that she realised that something was wrong.

“Mi tink him a guh just do the bath and take off whatever curse that was on mi. Him carry mi outside and tell mi to spin three tines in front of a mirror and him pray and bruk di coconut. Him carry mi back inside and say mi must take off mi clothes because mi have a sex demon on mi and in order fi him to remove the curse him have to get sexual with me,” she said.

Mary said he told her she just needed to “rub him down” but the next ting she knew he was on top of her, and they were both naked.

“I don’t know how him reach on mi, and mi feel like him spray something on mi because I remember him telling mi to pray, and the next thing I know he was on top of mi,” Mary said.

She also said she doesn’t remember if he penetrated her. Ashamed to even face herself in the mirror, Mary is afraid to even go to the police. She, however, wants persons utilising social media platforms to be wary of predators who may intend to cause harm and inflict untold pain.
