Alkaline to MAKE HISTORY on streaming platform

- SHEREITA GRIZZLE Staff Reporter

Today dancehall artiste Alkaline will make history as the first hardcore dancehall act to be featured on streaming platform Audiomack’s hit live performance series, Fine Tuned.

This special performance follows news of the pending release of the entertainer’s second full-length album, Top Prize.

Alkaline’s manager and sister, Kereena Beckford, made the revelation of the Extra Lesson deejay’s performance in an interview with THE STAR yesterday. She said that her brother will break new ground for dancehall and she is extremely proud and excited for the masses to see his performance.

“It’s going to be special. It will be him and one acoustic guitar and he will be performing (the singles) Cree and Ocean Wave. It’s a big deal for dancehall music because the Fine Tuned programme largely features hip-hop artistes. He will be the first hardcore dancehall artiste to perform on the series and I am excited for the fans to see it,” she said.

Fine Tuned is a live performance video series that pairs artistes with a live instrumentalist for an intimate rendition of their biggest hits. Big named international acts like Davido, Akon, Ne-Yo and Lil Durk have all been featured on the series. Kranium was the only other Jamaican act to be featured back in February 2019.

Alkaline’s team has also announced the track listing for the Top Prize compilation. Similar to his debut project, New Level Unlocked which was released back in 2016, Top Prize features 14 singles. The album is set to drop on May 14. In a release sent to THE STAR, Alkaline’s team said the album is a “discography of music that is suited for all demographics”.

It also said the title of the album is “a testament of victory against all odds” as the entertainer remains focused on continued musical ascendancy.

Beckford told THE STAR that her client and brother has been working consistently over the years and says Top Prize will reflect that.

“He has been working over the years and it’s always a good feeling to have a complete package and something that is a project that’s well executed. His fans will be very appreciative of what he has put together. I love it. I am a proud manager and sister to the artiste and talent that is Alkaline. I mean with his accomplishments over the years, who wouldn’t be proud,” she said.

New Level Unlocked debuted at number one on the Billboard Reggae Album Chart in 2016. Alkaline received the plaque marking the success of the project earlier this month and took to social media to celebrate.
