Pwile Chile says the entertainment business is ‘unfair’
Dancer-turned-recording artiste Roy Gibson is kicking up a storm about the treatment he has received during the course of his career as an entertainer.
Though it may be typical behaviour for someone who goes by the moniker Pwile Chile (Spoil Child), the reggae-dancehall singjay says he has no reason to act entitled in the business of entertainment.
“Me jus’ used to running out on stage with the talk ‘pwile yuh pwile’ and that jus’ became my style. I don’t think of myself as a man that act like him spoil,” he told THE WEEKEND STAR.
“Although me can say, me madda pwile me fi true. I am the third of four boys, and one girl.”
Growing up in a single-parent home, cooking became a mustlearn skill and it soon became Pwile Chile’s means of income. He became known in Port Antonio as the ‘flitters man’.
He shared, “My mother, Maulese Forrester, used to push cart with five of us. I come, push cart and sell different type a fritters. True me is a people person, everybody get fi know me. Deh suh, me get my start fi stop cook and start deejay. Before that, too, me used to make up dance and go event as a dancer.”
STORY LINE
About four years in the entertainment business, he has recorded for the likes of Got-It Records, Mastermind Music and Shabdon Records. But Pwile Chile does not believe he has been given a fair chance to show his true talent yet. This is the story he chants in his latest single, titled Unfair, produced by One Don Records.
“I was parrin’ with some youths I believe in, but it looks like dem was waiting on someone who hot already. Dat alone will drain a person energy,” he said. “Over nine or more videos have been recorded but people will probably never get to see. That’s really some unfair business we seeing in entertainment. Unfair is doing good so far, but it sooo rough … is like everybody want them break, and it nuh matter. This is why now, I’m just doing me, focusing on me.”
Pwile Chile says since taking matters into his own hands, establishing the Rich and Nah Talk Entertainment label, he has been able to see the fruits of his labour. His previous singles, Portland, Gwan So and Sick Head, have also been gaining more traction.
“Dem a reach di platforms and a get radio airplay. I have moved on from people I used to be around. I have to give thanks for life. I must make my mother proud,” Pwile Chile said.
