Top Ja stars in Monaco Diamond League
Several Jamaican track and field stars will continue their preparations for the Tokyo Olympics when they compete in today’s Wanda Diamond League in Monaco.
World long jump champion Tajay Gayle heads the five Jamaicans who are down to compete at the meet. Gayle is in red hot form, following a good win in the event three days ago in Stockholm. His winning distance was a wind-aided 8.55 metres. Today he will battle world leader Miltiadis Tentoglou of Greece and the winner here is expected to have a big psychological advantage going into the Tokyo Olympics.
World 100 metres champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce will be hoping to return to winning ways when she competes in the women’s 200 metres after her second-place finish in the 100m in Hungary to countrywoman and former training partner Elaine Thompson
Herah three days ago. Fraser-Pryce will face Shaunae Miller-Uibo of The Bahamas who was beaten into second place in the half-lap event in Hungary by Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson and American champion Gabrielle Thomas the fastest woman over 200 metres this year.
