Cop, cabbie killed in St Catherine

There is a renewed call for the establishm­ent of a police post in the Big Lane, Central Village, community following the murder of two persons including a policeman.

“The police need to be respected, therefore it can’t be that people just attacking them, we need them to serve and protect,” Councillor Donovan Guy said.

Police Corporal Delwin Jackson, who was assigned to the Glengoffe Police Station in St Catherine North Division and Kenroy Chandler were shot dead by unknown assailants in Big Lane, Central Village, St Catherine, yesterday.

Reports are that about 7:15 a.m., residents heard explosions and summoned the police. On their arrival Corporal Jackson was seen lying on the roadway with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at hospital. A grey Nissan Tiida motor car, with the engine running was found at the scene.

The area was searched, and while processing the scene, the body of Chandler, 42, a taxi operator of West Prospect District, Bog Walk, St Catherine was found in bushes with gunshot wounds.

Investigat­ors theorised that Jackson had gone into the volatile inner-city community to purchase a motor car.

When he was pounced upon by unknown person/s and was shot and robbed of an undetermin­ed sum of money.

THE STAR was informed that Jackson was attached to the Glengoffe Police Station, in the St Catherine North police division.

Jackson’s death is the first in the St Catherine South Police Division since the start of 2021.
