‘Dunbeholden will be in play-offs’

- DANIEL WHEELER Staff Reporter

With Dunbeholden in the thick of the Jamaica Premier League play-off chase, manager Paul Christie has made a guarantee that his team will be in the postseason contending for the a title when the regular season is through.

The St Catherine- based Dunbeholden will face Humble Lion today at 1 p.m. at the UWI/ Captain Horace Burrell Centre of Excellence as part of a rescheduled triple-header as last weekend’s games were postponed because of increased COVID-19 restrictions that involved no-movement days on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.

After getting off to a slow start with two defeats, Dunbeholden have 10 points, tied with Waterhouse and Tivoli Gardens and although they are in seventh place because of goal difference, they could, with a win today, move into the top six.

With three games left to play in the regular season, Christie says the change in the scheduling has not diminished their goal of being title contenders

TRYING TO GET BETTER

“We still have that ambition. The adjustments and the fluidity of the situation does not change or adjust our initial objective. We are still in it to win it. We are still trying to improve, trying to get better and we will be there when the play-offs are ready to begin,” Christie told STAR Sports.

Dunbeholden are unbeaten in their last three games and have won three of the last five. In fact, all of their points have come in the last five games.

Although the postponements forced them to change their training schedule with an individual workout programme during the no-movement days, Christie says that they see the bigger picture in not only getting to the play-offs but to be able to continue the season during these circumstances.

“We are trying to adapt and just make the best of the situation without any form of complaining. The guys understand what is happening from a government perspective and know that this (COVID-19) is not a hoax and is no joke,” Christie said.

Harbour View will take on Molynes United at 10 a. m., while Cavalier SC will play Mount Pleasant at 3:30 p.m at the same venue.
