Kashief Lindo revisits single after 23 years

-

Twenty-three years ago when Kashief Lindo recorded the single See You in Your Arms Tonight, he did it for producer Lloyd Campbell, and the single made a splash on reggae radio in South Florida and New York.

Last year, the singer revisited it with his father Willie Lindo as producer but with a fresh sound. The new version is from Love On, Kashief’s late 2021 album.

“It’s got a good reception from the jump. That was the song that made it (the album) pick up traction,” said the singer. Campbell, who died in 2016, recorded a number of hit songs from his South Florida base. Lindo was one of the acts he recruited for a compilation album based on The Wailers’ classic ‘Thank You Lord’ rhythm, done at Studio One during the mid-1960s.

That project also featured songs by Freddie McGregor and Glen Washington. For the song’s second coming, the Lindos went for a smoother feel that they believe will appeal to fans of lovers’ rock, a sound the elder Lindo has had considerable success with.

Love On is dominated by ballads like

See You in Your Arms Tonight. The set hears Kashief shifting gears from social commentary songs like I Can’t See Your Face, which did well in South Florida and the tri-state area in the past two years.

Kashief started his career in the early 1990s and got the breakthrough with singles like No Can Do and The First Cut, which were produced by his father for the family’s Heavy Beat Records. That label, based in South Florida, is known for easy-listening songs such as What One Dance Can Do by Beres Hammond,
