Woman allegedly hides cocaine in vagina

Awoman who was reportedly caught at the Norman Manley International Airport with cocaine strapped to her body and in her body cavity was offered bail in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on humanitarian grounds yesterday.

Chief Parish Judge Chester Crooks offered bail after it was revealed that there was a COVID-19 outbreak at the correctional facility in which she was being held. It was also shared with the court that there is a genuine concern for the defendant’s safety as, in her caution statement, she said she was threatened by a man to carry the drugs.

“I was just advised that there is an outbreak at [name of facility] and they are not accepting anyone at this time. So I am going to offer [the defendant] bail,” Crooks cautioned. The defendant was offered $500,000 bail with at least two sureties. The court also imposed a condition that the defendant reports to the police three times weekly and that the individual’s passport be surrendered. Crooks requested that a psychiatric evaluation be conducted and the case file be completed by September 14.

It is alleged that on June 26, the accused was at the airport preparing to board a flight for New York. During the pre-screening process, irregularities were observed and a further search was conducted of the person, when an unusual bulge was detected in the region of the individual’s breasts. It was then revealed that three irregularly shaped parcels were removed from her brassiere. It was further shared in court that during the search, the defendant confessed that she also inserted drugs in her vagina.

The accused was escorted to the washroom where a cylindrical shaped parcel was taken from her vagina. The weight of the substance is said to be 2.5 pounds.
