SLAIN PHOTOJOURNALIST WAS A HARD-WORKING FAMILY MAN

- ROXROY MCLEAN STAR Writer

Two weeks ago, Dave Davis said that his son, popular video editor and photojournalist Dominic ‘Domz’ Davis, expressed the desire to take a week off work to spend quality time with his daughter at the family home. But that will not happen as Dominic, 26, was murdered on Tuesday at his home on Maverley Avenue in St Andrew. The tearful Davis said he had a “very close” relationship with his son and told THE STAR that the family is finding it difficult to cope with the loss of the young entrepreneur, who owned DomzMedia photo company. “We talked about a lot of stuff, we talked very often. We call upon each other to check in. If him need anything him call, if I need anything, I call. If I don’t hear from him a day or two I would call, and once him see the missed call he would call back same time,” said Davis. “This is really devastating. A shocking news, everybody here is just out of their minds. Knowing the type of person that he is, no one was expecting anything like this to happen.” He said that his last conversation with Dominic was on Monday night when he said he was feeling unwell.

“He said he had a fever and he had a cough. I turned to him and said, ‘Mind a di COVID yuh ketch, enuh’. But he took some Panadol and say him a guh sleep it off. That was my last conversation with him,” he recalled. The Corporate Communications

Unit reported that Dominic and another man were at his home when residents heard the sound of gunshots coming from Dominic his apartment complex. Both men were taken to hospital by the police who were alerted by neighbours. Dominic was pronounced dead upon arrival.

“He is a hard-working youth. Always a look fi mek another step up the ladder. He is a person who don’t idle time. Almost all of his time was progressively used to get his work done,” Davis added. According to Sebastian Foster, who gave Dominic a start in the business in 2014, he has left an indelible mark on the industry industry.

“Domz is very humble and as I posted on my WhatsApp status after his death, we both have stamped our names in the photo fraternity the same way Nick Fotoworks ( photographer Nicketa Thomas who went missing in 2015). As long as you live, you will always hear about Nick Fotoworks, and I believe it is going to be the same with Domz,” Foster said. He, too, was puzzled as to why Dominic was gunned down as he considered him to be a man of integrity and professionalism. Head of the St Andrew Central Police Division, Senior Superintendent Marlon Nesbeth, told THE STAR that the police have not established any leads. “In fact, we are appealing to the public to come forward with any information that will assist us in our investigation,” Nesbeth said.
