Stop calling L.A. Lewis an artiste, begs Mr Lexx

- YASMINE PERU STAR Writer

Veteran dancehall artiste Mr Lexx is only too aware that he will be labelled ‘bad mind’ for speaking out against “the antics” of L.A. Lewis, but that will not stop him from making a call for Lewis to stop being referred to as an artiste. “Here we have this man who go around telling people that he travels on his driver’s licence, that Queen Elizabeth is his grandmother, and that he is a Maroon chief. If that isn’t delusional, then I don’t know what is. And then both he and the media keep on referring to him as an artiste. L.A. Lewis is not a recording nor [is he] a performing artiste. He and the foolishness that him keep up just give artiste a bad name,” Mr Lexx told THE STAR.

His comments follow a tweet he made on Wednesday stating: “LA Lewis is not an entertainer and have nothing to with the music industry. I wish the media would stop associate this delusional man with our business. Kmt, when will y’all realise the things he does is not funny????”

Mr Lexx referred to a January 2021 court case in which a judge ordered that Lewis should be sent for psychiatric evaluation and demanded to know “when Jamaican people going to realise that playing into his games not really doing anybody nuh justice?”

The court case came about when Lewis, whose given name is Horace Lewis, was charged for breaches of the Disaster Risk Management Act and appeared in the St Catherine Parish Court. Judge Monique Harrison ordered the report be done after Lewis said that he had been kidnapped, not arrested, by the police.

Allegations were that Lewis and other persons were protesting in Spanish Town against the Government’s orders for persons to wear masks to prevent the spread of COVID19. When the police told the group to disperse, they refused. Lewis, who was also charged with disobeying a constable’s command, said that he cannot be charged as he is protected by Maroon law.

Lewis claims to be Paramount Chief High Priest of the Nyan-Ko-Pong Maroons. However, the colonel of the Accompong Maroons threatened Lewis with flogging after labelling him a troublemaker for ascribing to himself Maroon heritage.

“The Maroon dem don’t want to be associated with L.A. Lewis, so why we in the music industry must bear that burden? Look how him tek up himself gone to the funeral in Clarendon for the five people and mek a spectacle of himself in the people dem personal space. And then we see him trending. Why is he trending? It is annoying,” Mr Lexx lashed out.
