- AALIYAH CUNNINGHAM STAR Writer

Reggae artiste Imeru Tafari certainly used 2022 to ‘elevate’ his mission to becoming an established musical act.

His track Elevate with his mentor, dancehall artiste Popcaan, currently has 24 million views on YouTube and helped him make appearances on several stages, including the highly supported Burna Boy Live concert. For 2023, he is kicking things off on the Rebel Salute stage this weekend. He said this performance is all about redemption and setting the tone for the rest of the year.

“To tell you the truth, the performance at the Burna Boy show did not come out as I wanted it to; and for that reason, I am taking this next opportunity really seriously, and I really want to establish that I am a really versatile artiste,” he said.

“Rehearsals have been going great, you know. I have one of the best drummers right now, a prodigy from Edna Manley. His name is Keneil, and we do a lot of productions together. His recoding company is called KoastalKings and I am under that label, and it’s just vibes,” Imeru Tafari shared.

The son of reggae singer Queen Ifrica, Imeru Tafari has always had a love for music. He told THE WEEKEND STAR that Rebel Salute has a been a training ground for him, and with a single that has made the rounds, he is happy to hit the stage having far more exposure. He is looking forward to sharing his set with Popcaan.

“One of the things I am really looking forward to is singing Elevate one more time with my brother on stage for a mass of Jamaican people, and I cannot wait. This time it is actually my performance. The performance at the Burna Boy show was actually his performance; now this one is mine and I just cannot wait,” he said. Imeru Tafari said Popcaan is encouraging him to be strong.

“He is always telling me to get serious because, for some reason, he was saying mi kinda did ‘fraid pon the Burna Boy show, which I was because the mic stop work. So he’s like, ‘Yow, mek sure seh yuh brave up, and mi wah yuh guh inna yuh mada vibes. See how yuh mommy stay, a suh yuh fi tek it on and guh serious.’ So I am always telling him, I am going to make him proud,” he said.

For 2023, he said that he has a project coming out and will be signing a contract with Unruly Entertainment soon.

“My career is going to take a serious turn to the more business side and marketing strategies and promotional strategies, and just to get the music out there into the people’s faces so they can understand that Imeru Tafari is an established artiste and he is talented and ready,” he said.
