National helps Old Harbour stay perfect
Jamaica all-rounder Peat Salmon has been having a tremendous few weeks. After leading St Catherine CC to their first Senior Cup title in more than a decade, the right-hander was in good touch last weekend to help Old Harbour to an eight-wicket win over Basement at Port Esquivel in the Jamaica Energy Partners (JEP) 40-over St Catherine League.
Off-spinner Salmon first bagged five wickets for 43 runs to help restrict Basement to 153, with Mikhail Henry also joining the party by capturing five wickets for 49 runs, despite 37 from Shaquille Greenwood.
Salmon returned with the bat to hit an unbeaten 80 to lead Old Harbour to 159 for two, with Erron Downer chipping in with 43.
Old Harbour stay perfect with a maximum of 20 points from their four games and are at the top of Zone A, with Basement, who were losing their first match, second on 15 points, the same as third-placed Phoenix Park and fourth-placed Paul Mountain, who defeated Braeton by 181 runs.
In the other Zone A fixture at Windalco, Ewarton got the better of Slazenger by eight wickets. Slazenger posted 170, with Shannor Douse grabbing four for 48. Ewarton eased to 171 for two, with Jamarie Harris hitting 73 not out and Travette Williams 54.
In Zone B, Bridgeport kept their perfect campaign intact, securing a five-wicket win over Angels at Bridgeport.
Roy Williams and Dwayne Guthrie took three wickets each to restrict Angels to 95, after which Williams returned to hit an unbeaten 38 to lead Bridgeport to 96 for five. Williams also chipped in with an unbeaten 25.
Bridgeport’s fourth win in five games means they lead the zone with 22 points.
In another Zone B matchup, Packers defeated Correctional Services by 62 runs.
Packers took first strike and posted 162, with Gimali McPherson leading the way with 59 not out. Shawn Walker then bagged five wickets for 22 runs to peg back the servicemen, who could only manage to get 100.
