Slain ‘Gang Bang’ linked to four murders
An alleged contract killer who was cut down by the police in St Catherine last Thursday has been linked to at least four murders in western Jamaica.
Christopher Shields, otherwise called ‘Gang Bang’, has been described by the police as “a prolific contract killer”. He has been linked to the murder of Romie Taylor and Davroy Barnes, as well as the killing of 20-year-old Kerrick Moodie and his 22-year-old sister, Keneisha Moodie.
Taylor, a taxi operator of Burnt
Savannah, Frome, Westmoreland, was gunned down on Baulk Road, Stand Pipe in the parish on November 29, 2023. Just one hour after Taylor’s murder, Barnes, also known as ‘DJ Myrie,’ a disc jockey from Mango Hill, Little London, Westmoreland, was shot and killed on Broughton Road in the same parish.
Shields was also suspected of being involved in the murders of the Moodie siblings who went missing on December 8, 2023. Their bodies are yet to be found.
Deputy Commissioner of Police
Fitz Bailey, who is in charge of the crime and security portfolio, said Shields was also involved in several incidents of robberies and shootings.
The alleged contract killer and another man were killed last Thursday when a police team assigned to the Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigations Branch (C-TOC) attempted to intercept a Toyota Probox motor car with two men aboard at the intersection of Spanish Town Bypass and Salt Pond main road in St Catherine. Two 9mm pistols and a quantity of ammunition were seized in yesterday’s incident. Shields’s alleged accomplice remains unidentified.
“I must commend the officers who have constantly risked their lives to ensure that Jamaica is a safe place. It’s not an easy time to be engaged in these types of activities, when you are certain the men that you are confronting are men who are armed with weapons. We are aware that this criminal oftentimes travelled with high-powered weapons—M16 rifles,” Bailey said.
