Crab Circle vendors ready to move forward

- KALLEJHAY TERRELONGE STAR Writer

Vendors at Crab Circle in Kingston are dismissing rumours that they removed the pipe from the stall of one their colleagues as this would hinder the spot’s resurgence.

The popular food spot was temporarily closed last year after a video filmed by vendor Nadine Francis – showing another vendor defecating in a bucket at her stall – went viral. Since its reopenning, vendors said that sales have not been as profitable, and some social media users have blamed Francis for causing the scrutiny in the first place. However vendors said that they are focused on getting the food spot back to its glory days.

“The whole a wi related in some sort a way … nobody nah try fight against nobody, wi just wah bring back Crab Circle to what it used to be,” one vendor said. “We nuh have time fi dat. Wi have wi children to send to school, we have bills to pay, we just wah mek wi money. Me nuh have no time fi a fight gainst nobody.”

When THE STAR visited the street food hotspot yesterday, only Francis’ pipe was missing. When asked for a comment, Francis declined. However, vendors

said that they are not interested in sabotaging her stall because that would be bad publicity.

“Wi a try come back, wi a try build back di place. Wi nah try prolong nothing, we just wah carry on,” the vendor said.

“There are people coming here from New Zealand, from Australia, one woman come from Australia and she tell mi how much plane she tek fi come right yah suh… . Suh wi just want things fi come back to how it was,” the vendor said adding that because of claims that Francis’ stall was vandalised, some customers are hesitant to make purchases, further affecting sales.
