Dr Marion Bullock-DuCasse, the new acting chairperson of the Gibson/ McCook Relays organising committee, says she looks forward to a February 24 successful staging.

Bullock-DuCasse, taking over from Professor Rainford Wilks, said it would be business as usual.

“We are certainly expecting to have another excellent event. We have a plan in place for all of the various functioning areas, so we will continue to follow that plan,” she said.

As former vice-chairperson of the Gibson/ McCook Relays organising committee, BullockDuCasse is not a stranger to responsibilities in a leadership manner.

“I would have been working alongside Professor Wilks, so I am familiar with all the aspects of the staging, (and) the full cooperation is there,” she said.

Under her leadership, the relays will see an introduction to several different variants.

“The longstanding one mile open, we have retired it (because) most people do not run a one mile open any more. So we will have the 1,500metre men and women to replace that event.

“We have two schools from Canada entered in numerous events. We also have confirmation from schools from Trinidad and Tobago, St Kitts and Nevis, and there is another country that we are still following up with.

“We will be doing a special giveaway of tickets to all of the schools that are participating. We are looking forward to having a larger audience,” Bullock-DuCasse expounded. She said she is trusting that it will be a great staging.

“I am certainly looking forward to having good athletics performances and more people in the stadium for 2024,” she said.
