Mount Pleasant defeated Harbour View 2-1 in an exciting match last night in the Wray and Nephew-sponsored Jamaica Premier League at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex.

All the goals came in the first half of play as Demar Rose put Harbour View ahead, but Devonte Campbell and Shaqueil Bradford pulled off the comeback for Mount Pleasant.

Mount Pleasant head coach Theodore Whitmore praised their mentality to get the win in what proved a physical match.

“I think it was a very high-intensity game,” he said. “We started very flat and were trailing, but we did well to get back two goals. For the last part of the game, we didn’t manage it as well, but the guys showed character, and we came out victorious.”

Harbour View fired the opening salvo in the third minute of play when Rose ghosted into the box and fired home to provide the early lead.

It did not last long; however, when

Mount Pleasant pulled level as Campbell, in the 25th minute, fired home from a rebound in the box.

A ghost from the past would haunt Harbour View when their former talisman Bradford sent Mount Pleasant ahead in the 37th minute from the penalty spot to seal the win.

Harbour View’s coach, Ludlow Bernard, felt the officiating played a role in their loss.

“We needed to be physical against a very physical team. The officials needed to exercise more control over the game. I thought he lost control of the game, and hence, it affected our performance - well, the performance of both teams. There is no positivity in a loss, but I can take heart in the attitude of my players.”

The win sees Mount Pleasant move back to second in the league on 39 points, one point behind leaders Cavalier. On the other hand, Harbour View sit ninth in the league with 19 points.

In the day’s earlier match at the same venue, Waterhouse defeated Vere United 1-0, with Rivaldo Mitchell finding the winner in the 25th minute.
