Businessmen make mega donation to church

- SIMONE MORGAN-LINDO STAR Writer

Three businessmen who visited a church in rural St Andrew last Sunday gave a healthy offering after, and heard about the needs of the worship centre.

The man, Vadem Gordon, Michael Powell and Kevin Samuels, went to the church located in Luna, near Border, for a christening ceremony.

“I go to church occasionally, mainly the holidays, and for christening or funeral. While I was at this particular church I heard them say that they needed money to do work on the church. It sounded like a dire need and that they were under pressure,” Gordon said.

“It was me and two brethrens there and we just decide to settle the bill for the church, being that we were there and in the position to do so,” he added.

Gordon, who is a player in the public transport sector, said the contribution was $250,000. He said he and his friends they did not think twice to contribute to the ministry of the Lord, adding that being avid partygoers they often spend money on less wholesome endeavours.

“We go party and we would splurge out thousands of dollars for money pull ups. We don’t visit the church to give as much money pull up as they should get, but they deserve it the same way the dancehall community deserve it,” Gordon said. He said he felt fulfilled by their actions. “We felt really welcome in the church, even before we made the contribution. The pastor and the entire congregation was very much appreciative of it and they gave us a special prayer. I know my late mother would be proud of me because she grew us in the church and she was dedicated in her attendance. It is a really good feeling just to know that we made a difference,” he said.

In the meantime, Gordon said he is encouraging other persons in a position to make a difference in the lives of others to step up to the plate.

“Once you can, just give back to someone. It doesn’t have to be a church. Let us remember the less fortunate, the elderly and the children,” Gordon said.
