University dropout wins $1 million in Born for Greatness promotion

-

East Kingston resident T Miller recently received a life-changing telephone call that left her with a new-found motivation to go after greatness.

Miller, who grew up in multiple places throughout her life before settling in Rockfort, became a millionaire overnight after winning first place in the Guinness Buju Born for Greatness trade promotion. She said it has not only boosted her economic fortunes but has built her confidence to go after what she wants.

“There have been many moments where I felt as if I would not overcome anything I went through. I had to drop out of university because I was not able to financially support myself. I try my best to remain optimistic, but sometimes life throws a lot at you and I feel like giving up,” tearfully shared Miller.

The competition, which was used to promote Buju Banton’s Born for Greatness album, commenced on November 2, 2023, and spanned over three months, saw consumers buying six packs of Guinness stout for a chance to win a grand prize of $1 million. Consumers also had the opportunity to win $50,000 weekly in cash and prizes. The competition ended on December 27, 2023.

T Miller was announced as the winner on January 3, 2024, via Guinness’ Instagram page.

Shocked at winning the competition, the young cashier expressed how doubt and lack of confidence almost led her to opt out of entering.

“Whenever I enter competitions of this nature, I have never won any. I felt as if I would not have won the grand prize but I hoped that I could be one of the weekly winners. I did not expect this outcome at all, it came at a perfect time, I am very excited that I won,” she said.

Now more passionate than ever,

Miller shared that she hopes to reenrol in a university with a portion of the money.

“Recently, I had an experience where I did not have any money to go to work. My mother is a vendor downtown [Kingston], I had to help her sell a few items to get the money to go to work. A lot of people have judged my mother and me when they have seen us downtown. It has affected me sometimes but I just remind myself that I am making an honest living and this is not the end of my journey. With this money from Guinness, I will have the opportunity to further my education in business and eventually become an entrepreneur,” she commented.

Miller hopes people can be inspired to never give up on themselves through her story.

“Despite the many difficulties I faced in my life, they taught me how to believe in myself and my potential. Sometimes it’s easier to say it than to do it, but if you do not believe in yourself, who is going to believe in you?,” she quizzed.

“Entering this competition has shown me that anything is possible once you make the decision to try, I hope people can learn to go after anything they desire, no matter how small it may seem,” she added.
