Gramps Morgan lending voice to worthy cause

Reggae artiste Gramps Morgan has joined other goodwill ambassadors in the quest to raise funds for the construction of the Mary Issa Health Centre in St Ann.

The Grammy Award-winning reggae artiste is slated to perform at a gala event, ‘For the Children’, in New York on May 11 as part of the fundraising efforts. Reggae group

Third World and the messenger, Luciano, are also on the line-up.

“I was informed by my publicist, Sean Edwards, of the work of the Issa Trust Foundation in the schools and hospitals, and that all proceeds from this fundraising event would go to the building of a new health centre for children. This moved me to contribute,” Gramps Morgan said.

The foundation intends to construct the health centre in Richmond, St Ann, in honour of a deceased Issa family matriarch, who was passionately committed to healthcare for children during her lifetime. The facility will provide expertise in areas such as cardiology, nephrology, gastroenterology, oncology and mental health support.

“I’m very excited about collaborating with this foundation and Third World,” Gramps said. He said the fact that the foundation does a lot of work with children made it easy for him to support the cause.

“Most of the time I like to get involved with charities that involve children because the children are the future. I always tell ministers of government that many times when we are trying to make change, we have to start with young children. The ones that are in universities and high schools have already make up their minds on what they’re going to do in life, so I believe they can be a great change with starting with the young children,” he said.
