Waterhouse progress with unity
Fo r m e r champions Waterhouse continue to show their true mettle in the Jamaica Premier League after their eighth win of the campaign yesterday.
A double from Andre Fletcher led Waterhouse to a comprehensive 5-1 away win over Humble Lion at Effortville, with the Marcel Gaylecoached Waterhouse amassing their 30th point and remaining in the sixth and final playoff spot.
Since losing 1-0 to leaders Cavalier, Waterhouse defeated Vere United and then drew with Arnett Gardens before the five-star performance against Humble Lion, who lost their 12th match.
Waterhouse, from the kick-off, swiftly implemented a high-pressing strategy, surprising Humble Lion’s defence in the seventh minute.
Fletcher capitalised on a well-placed pass from Revaldo Mitchell, speeding past defender Afiba Chambers to score. Within four minutes, Fletcher secured a second goal in a counter-attack.
The Lion’s fans, dismayed, spurred their players to respond. James Thomas scored for the hosts in the 19th minute.
However, Waterhouse regained control as Mitchell netted another goal in the 41st minute and though there was rain in the second half, Waterhouse excelled, with Javane Bryan scoring in the 59th minute and substitute
Duvaughn Dunkley sealing a 5-1 victory in the 87th minute.
Assistant coach for Waterhouse Damion Gordon said they are finding their footing at the right time with the synergy at its best.
“To come here and get a goal, much less five is amazing, and I must give credit to our players who put in an allaround team performance.”
Gordon added that Waterhouse have sights on being in the top half of the table, with just six games to go before the playoffs.
“This win will allow us to stay in the top six, and we will keep fighting and pushing as everyone is on board and with us,” added Gordon.
