Sings for more live shows

Jamaican songbird Tessanne Chin has joined the chorus of calls for the staging of more live events in the Corporate Area.

Hide Away

The singer, who recently delivered a soul-stirring performance at the I Love Souls concert, held at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre in St Andrew, said there is a pressing need for more live music experiences, especially in Kingston.

“I really hope to see more of this in Kingston; we need live music right now,” Tessanne said.

Tessanne won Season 5 of NBC’s reality TV singing competition, The Voice, as part of Adam Levine’s team in 2013. She emphasised the power of live music to uplift spirits and create a sense of connection, particularly in the current times.

“Live music is one of the most powerful things in the world, you just can’t leave a live show and don’t feel good,” Tessanne said.

The powerful songbird told THE STAR that performing at the I Love Souls reignited her passion to return to the stage on a more consistent basis.

“It was a way for me to kinda tiptoe my way back on stage because I do feel a little rusty, because it’s been a very long time since I’ve done that and put myself in that position,” Tessanne said.

Reflecting on her performance, Tessanne expressed her joy at being back onstage and that she was thrilled to reconnect with her craft.

“It was a really nice introduction back to being on stage and it felt good; hopefully, you’ll be seeing more,” Tessanne told THE STAR in an interview recently.

The talented singer has been involved in a number of “corporate events” since her break from the music scene, but said she has been following the musical trajectory and believes that there’s a greater need for more live stage shows.

Despite her push for more live music in Jamaica, Tessanne has revealed that “trying to please a Jamaican audience” is her greatest fear.

“To this day, I still question the amount of love my people showed me,” she said with a laugh.

“Because I know my Jamaican crowd, and the only crowd that will make me weak in the knees to sing for [them], is my Jamaicans – we always expect another level. And to have the support of my people, to hear them sing the songs and react to something that I’m doing, it gives me the most joy because it’s the desire of most Jamaican artistes to have their people with dem. So it’s not something I take lightly or something that

I take for granted, either,” the Loving You singer shared.

The devoted mother of two said for the past four years her time has been spent mostly at home, “proudly tending to her family”, but she still maintains her passion for music by transcending her musical expertise into developing little creative minds through her Voice

Box initiative.

With plans for another live show in the works, and talks of composing an EP, Tessanne is poised for an exciting return to the music scene, ready to share her soulful melodies once again.
