‘Miss Ivy Last Son’, Bounty Killer, is still reminiscing on receiving his life-long achievement awards at the Reggae Gold Awards show last Thursday.

But although genuinely happy while revelling in the moment, the ‘Five Star General’s only wish was to have his late mom, Ms Ivy, by his side.

“It was a proud moment for me accepting this award, it felt good being honoured. I am sorry that Ms Ivy, my mother, is not here to celebrate this achievement with me,” the veteran deejay told THE STAR. “This is a prestigious achievement offered for the people, by the people who voted for me. It is a great feeling.”

The celebratory event saw Bounty Killer walking away with two iconic awards, one of which is the Cultural Impact Award from Wray &

Nephew. He was also inducted in the Jamaica Music Museum Hall of Fame, one of Jamaican musicians’ most global achievement, locally.

‘The poor people governor’, who is known for his powerful messages for the people through his music, stated that his shared joy of winning goes out to his fans who are the backbone of his career.

“This win is really for the people who love the music. I have always done my best to produce the music for the fans. As long as they love and appreciate what music I put out, I am happy. I owe every achievement to the fans who have supported me over the years which resulted in my success. Thanks to them, I am where I am today,” a grateful Bounty Killer expressed.

The deejay said the recognition achieved through these award shows should serve as a form of encouragement for up-and-coming artistes who wish to be recognised in this light; but it can only be achieved through “hard work, dedication and commitment” .

“Believe in what you are doing and the music you are putting out. When success finds you, always return the favour by encouraging others and help others to succeed as well. ‘Each one teach one’,” he advised.

While still basking in the spirit of celebration, he reiterated his gratitude towards his mother as he looks forward to creating more worldclass music.

“As my journey continues, I will continue to work with the music. We also have upcoming tours and new material coming soon [and] there are more projects in the pipeline. I would like to acknowledge and thank God, my mother Ms Ivy, may she rest in peace. I would also like to acknowledge my manager, Paul ‘Bankey’ Giscombe who has been a tremendous support and inspiration to my achievements and success. ‘Yow hello’, the festive veteran singer ended on a high.

Bounty Killer was among a group of legendary musicians such as Beenie Man, Third World, Cleveland Browne and Wycliffe ‘Steely’ Johnson, who received awards at the Reggae Gold Awards.
