Jamaican Clarke-Harris, Grenadian Mitchell find the nets
Jamaica striker Jonson Clarke-Harris and Grenada striker Kairo Mitchell continued their rich goal-scoring form for their respective clubs in the English leagues on Saturday with contrasting results.
Clarke-Harris came off the substitutes bench to create the second goal for Peterborough United and scored the third as they clinched a comfortable 3-1 win against Burton Albion in the English League 1 championship.
Mitchell netted his 12th goal of the season, with Sam Mather scoring a first professional goal to equalise, as AFC Rochdale drew 2-2 with Oxford City in the English National League championship.
Peterborough made it five wins in a row in all competitions and four successive League 1 wins when they overcame Burton Albion at the Pirelli Stadium.
Jonson Clarke-Harris was introduced with the score level 1-1, and he created the second goal for Josh Knight before tapping home a stylish assist from fellow substitute Malik Mothersille to seal an important win on the road for Posh.
Peterborough got in front after 55 minutes when Ricky Jade-Jones finished past Burton Albion’s goalkeeper Max Crocombe from a Harrison Burrows cross for his professional goal with his head.
Substitute Ademola Ola-Adebomi levelled the scores for The Brewers, as
Burton Albion are known, getting a final touch after a long throw-in from Thomas Hamer was flicked on by Ryan Sweeney.
Posh got their noses in front again three minutes from the end when a clipped cross from Ronnie Edwards was knocked down by Clarke-Harris and fired home by Josh Knight for his second goal in a week.
Five minutes of stoppage time was indicated, and Posh extended their advantage when Mothersille showed a neat piece of skill to beat the defender and lay it on a plate for Clarke-Harris, who tapped home from close range.
