‘Miracle’ as stolen baby found

In a miraculous turn of events, the infant that was stolen yesterday from the Kingston Public Hospital was found in the Dunkirk area of East Kingston, approximately six and a half hours after her abduction.

The baby, Kimoya Robe, but who her mother has since nicknamed ‘Miracle’, was found in the company of a woman. Senior Superintendent Michael Phipps, head of the Kingston Western Police Division, confirmed that the suspect, a resident of Oxford Street, is currently detained. However, her identity will not be disclosed until charges are filed.

“She is a person who recently gave birth, just as late as February and the baby died,” he disclosed. Kimoya, who was medically evaluated yesterday, is expected to be reunited with her parents, 26-year-old Christina Blake and 33-year-old Kevin Robe.

Reports from the Denham Town police are that about 10:05 a.m., the suspect offered to assist Blake, who uses a wheelchair. Blake then

handed her the baby and she left, claiming she would return momentarily. Blake attempted to stop the woman; however, her attempts proved futile. A report was made to the police and an investigation launched. The child was later found. Despite their relief, the ordeal is unlikely to fade quickly from the parents’ memory.

Robe recounted the moments leading up to the abduction, revealing how the suspect, appearing familiar from previous hospital visits, gained their trust and ultimately took advantage of a brief separation to abscond with the infant.

“I turned to my babymother and said I am going to get something for you to eat because you’re hungry, you never eat this morning. I spent less than five minutes and when I came back, a just she [Blake] me see,” he recalled.

Blake, reflecting on the harrowing experience, expressed a sense of vulnerability, questioning whether her condition as a wheelchair user made her an easy target.

“I went to see if my cut was healed, and my last moment with her I was saying finally I don’t have to come back here because I am healed up and alright. Ready for another chapter, another journey ahead. I built a bond from the day I found out I was pregnant at four months. When that child came out I called her Miracle because I had a rough pregnancy,” she said.
