Arnett place Lime on the brink

While they are yet to be mathematically relegated from the Wray and Nephewsponsored Jamaica Premier League (JPL), Lime Hall Academy are on the brink of the drop after a 3-0 loss to Arnett Gardens in yesterday’s Monday Night fixture.

An own goal from Marlon Buckley in the 52nd minute, a strike from Kaheim Dixon just a minute later and a near-post finish from substitute Jaheim Thomas secured all three points for the Junglists.

Lime Hall assistant coach Oshane Allen said the own goal proved to be the undoing for his team as they could not mount a comeback after conceding.

“Yes, it was a hard-fought one, but I guess after the own goal, it put the team in a sleeping mode, and we just don’t know what comes after,” Allen said.

Lime Hall are rooted at the foot of the JPL table after 22 matches with just eight points. Last night’s defeat was their fifth loss in a row, having only one win this campaign.

Arnett found the opener with some luck when a free kick swung towards Kimani Arbouine ricocheted off Lime Hall defender Buckley and ended up in his net.

The Junglists doubled their lead just a minute later. Dixon would prove to be in the right place at the right time when a scuffed clearance from Lime Hall found its way to his feet and the striker made no mistake from inside the box.

Arnett had their third goal when substitute Thomas latched on to a pass inside the box and placed his shot just to the right of the onrushing goalkeeper.

Lime Hall had to play the last few minutes with 10 players and a makeshift goalkeeper when Jaheim Williams went down with a shoulder injury after making a save.

Arnett Gardens head coach Xavier Gilbert praised his players for getting the job done and securing all three points.

“That’s what matters, the three points. We wanted to put on a better show, to be honest.”

The win puts Arnett on 42 points and draw level with Portmore United and Tivoli Gardens. However, Portmore United and Tivoli boast a better goal difference than Arnett with the teams sitting third, fourth and fifth respectively in the table.
