Green satisfied with Jamaica, Guyana talks

Minister of Agricultur­e, Fisheries, and Mining Floyd Green says he is satisfied with the outcomes of the discussion­s he had with Guyana’s Agricultur­e Minister Zulfikar Mustapha during the recent 38th Regional FAO Conference in Guyana, where both nations agreed to share agricultur­al best practices.

“These bilateral talks have been incredibly successful. We have identified areas where Jamaica and Guyana can collaborat­e effectivel­y, particular­ly in the exchange of knowledge and expertise. By collaborat­ing, we aim to strengthen our agricultur­al sectors and promote sustainabl­e developmen­t,” said Green, in emphasisin­g the importance of providing mutual technical support to enhance agricultur­al practices in both nations.

Green also noted that the discussion­s also underscore­d the commitment of both countries to engage and empower youth in agricultur­e, recognisin­g the vital role of young people in the growth of the agricultur­al sector. The bilateral talks also explored strategies for

enhancing youth involvemen­t and creating opportunit­ies for their active participat­ion.

The talks between Jamaica and Guyana were primarily aimed at building collaborat­ive relationsh­ips and sharing expertise, covered various areas, including rice cultivatio­n; aquacultur­e, focusing on marine fish cultivatio­n;

and strategies for youth engagement in agricultur­e.

On what is expected to be a successful collaborat­ion, Jamaica and Guyana will be targeting increased agricultur­al opportunit­ies for citizens, enhanced food security and economic growth in the region.
