Buchanan, legal team awaiting Privy Council directives

Dancehall star Vybz Kartel remains steadfast on his lawyer’s mantra of ‘God and time’ as he still ‘anxiously’ anticipates a new date for his court hearing.

In an interview with THE WEEKEND STAR, the deejay’s lawyer Isat Buchanan said his client is doing well.

“He’s okay. He is awaiting his freedom to get his medical treatment [and] to do his definitive medical surgery,” he

said. “Nothing has changed, he needs the surgery and we know that [so] that’s still a live issue and that’s my concern.”

The Summer Time artiste, according to Buchanan, is still behind bars, after the UK Privy Council ruled that his 32-year prison sentence for the alleged murder of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams be quashed. The judges cited juror misconduct in its ruling last month. The appeal was heard in February. The case was also sent back to the Jamaica Court of Appeal to decide whether to order a retrial. The entertainer’s co-defendants are Shawn ‘Shawn Storm’ Campbell, Kahira Jones and Andre St John. Buchanan said the defence team along with the entertainer is still patiently awaiting their new court date in order to decide on their next move.

“We’re just awaiting a final court date with the Court of Appeal and that’s when we’re gonna make our next step,” he shared. “So we are awaiting the hearing from the court – the Privy Council is gonna give us an order and when we get that order, the court will set a date and that’s really what we’re waiting on; so nothing has changed since the last time.”

Following the March 14 ruling from the Privy Council, the Internet and several members of the artiste’s camp known as ‘Gaza Nation’ took to the streets in celebration.
