Veteran comedian ‘Sammy Question’ honoured

- RASBERT TURNER STAR Writer

Veteran comedian Samuel ‘Sammy Question’ Turner was recognised for his work in the performing arts at the first staging of the North Coast

Comedy and Food Festival on Sunday.

The entertainer was awarded for his 36 years of contribution to the industry. The St Catherineborn Turner was given the award by Leon ‘Lemon’ Parkins at the Turtle River Park in Ocho Rios, St Ann. Parkins revealed that

as a comedian himself, he felt compelled to honour the veteran, who has etched his name in the annals of comedic entertainment.

“This is a man who saw me at Teen Splash years ago and told me to believe in myself. That was all the encouragement needed,” Parkins said. “It was Sammy Question and Sarge, Sammy Question and Apache Chief. So I must respect the legend and acknowledge his legacy. So this is just a token to say respect and thanks, sir,” said Parkins, who is also a promoter. In receiving his award, Turner was in awe, expressing appreciation for the acknowledgement.

“This is the first award that I have ever received since 1993. But that was a certificate; this is a plaque that my children and grandchildren can look at and see that my commitment to providing for them through comedy was not in vain,” he said.

Patrons were duly entertained by the new Apache Chief and Sarge, Kathy ‘Tan Deh Deh’ Grant, Michael Fletcher, Ramone ‘Reflections’ Emanuel and home-town talent Tavara Boultan. Parkins told THE STAR that the event is expected to be held yearly at the venue.

“It is the start of things to come, no joke about it,” Parkins quipped.
