Takeshita St. No place does adolescence like Tokyo. If it’s Sunday, around 1-4pm, outside the main gates of the Meiji Shrine will be a horde of Gothic Lolitas whose make-up would have Mary Quant swivelling in her mini. With your back to the shrine entrance, zip right and around the cnr to enter Yoyogi Park where you’ll see Elvis and friends, presumably on meds. Nip back to the shrine entrance and go left, crossing and following the slow moving conveyor belt of black hair left to find Takeshita St. At the end, cross straight over for Harajuku St.’s fun boutiques. Turn right at the last junction, with Lonsdale on your right, and carry on to swish Omotesando Dori. Cross the foot bridge, u-turn 180˚ and 3/4s of the way down is Montoak / 6-1-9 Jingumae / 5468 5928 / montoak.com / handy for a pit-stop marti gargle.
