The 5th arrondissement
Set off to explore the 5th arrondissement, taking in the Place de la Sorbonne and strolling past Ernest Hemingway’s former digs at 39 rue Descartes and 74 rue Cardinal Lemoine. From there you can make your way along the boulevard San Michel and stop off at the legendary bookseller Shakespeare and Company, on the banks of the Seine. The name is a tribute to Sylvia Beach’s bookshop, which she founded in 1919 and which soon became a hub for Joyce, Hemingway, Stein, Fitzgerald, Eliot, and Pound. The literary tradition is still going strong at this iconic establishment.
