Kurban Ait, Kazakhstan
Kurban Ait is celebrated on the 70th day after the last day of the Oraza fast. Translated from Arabic, the name means ‘holiday of sacrifice’, and is when Muslims sacrifice animals. The first day of Kurban Ait is the most important; the Ait Namaz prayer is read in mosques and afterwards people exchange greetings and invitations to their homes. In Kazakhstan Kurban Ait is, like Christmas, a public holiday.
