People claim that the lights of this festival can be seen from space. During Diwali, people let off fireworks and light traditional oil lamps and candles in their houses to attract Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and well-being. Because of the abundance of light, Diwali is often compared to the European New Year. This festival symbolises the victory of light over darkness, kindness over evil, and it is celebrated for five days.
