My favourite city is Naples. When I visited Italy for the first time, this city impressed me the most. It is a place of astonishing contrasts: on the one hand a city of the mafia and, on the other, of countless richly-decorated churches. The streets are, to put it mildly, pretty dirty, but the clean air blows in off the sea so you can breathe easily and freely. You can talk for hours about Italian cuisine but here in Naples, the motherland of pizza, home-made meals taste the best. Pizza is available on every corner, as is meat, seafood, wine and limoncello. If you climb higher, up into the hills to the ancient castle, or just to the top floor of a good hotel, you will have the most beautiful view of the city and the sea. I loved strolling along the quay; the screaming seagulls and neighbouring Vesuvius give balance and everything feels integrated in a good way.
